Where to Stay for Monterey Car Week: Pebble Beach, Carmel or Monterey?

Monterey Car Week 2027 runs from 6 to 15 August. Compare Pebble Beach, Carmel and Monterey as private residence bases for corporate groups, collectors and executive teams.

Choosing the right base

Monterey Car Week 2027 takes place from 6 to 15 August, closing with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday 15 August. For most senior groups the choice comes down to three bases: Pebble Beach for proximity and prestige, Carmel for balance and walkable evenings, and Monterey for operational practicality.

There is no single correct answer, because the week is not held in one place and few groups attend the same combination of auctions, track sessions, private receptions and concours events.

What separates a smooth week from a difficult one is rarely the address on the contract. It is whether the residence supports the way your party actually moves: how many vehicles arrive, how often guests leave and return, whether you host privately in the evenings, and how tolerant your schedule is of the traffic and temporary road arrangements that follow the event around the peninsula.

Staying in Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach is the natural choice when the Concours and the surrounding Pebble Beach programme sit at the centre of your week. Proximity matters here in a way it does not elsewhere: on the busiest days the ability to return to the residence between commitments, change, brief a team or host a small group is worth more than any single amenity.

The residences themselves are the other reason clients choose the area. Estate calibre is high, grounds are private, and many homes are genuinely suited to entertaining, with dining space for a full party, terraces that work in August evenings, and staff areas that allow catering and service to run without intruding on guests.

For collectors and senior teams hosting clients, that combination is difficult to replicate elsewhere on the peninsula.

The constraint is supply. The number of estates of this standard is small, availability through our property partners is selective, and the calibre of brief matters.

Access is also worth planning around: gate procedures, resident and event traffic and temporary arrangements during the week all affect how easily vehicles and guests move in and out.

Groups that plan movements in advance find Pebble Beach comfortable. Groups that improvise usually do not.

Staying in Carmel

Carmel is the most balanced base for a week spread across several venues. It sits within easy reach of the Pebble Beach programme, the Carmel Valley events and the auctions and gatherings in and around Monterey, without committing your entire schedule to one end of the peninsula.

Its real advantage is the evening. Restaurants, galleries and bars are walkable, which changes the character of the week for a group that has spent the day in transit and on its feet. Parties who want dinner without another vehicle movement, or who intend to split into smaller groups in the evening, generally prefer Carmel.

The residence profile is different. Carmel offers distinctive private homes and villas, often with strong architecture and mature gardens, but the stock skews smaller than the largest Pebble Beach estates.

For a party of eight to twelve with a clear preference for atmosphere over scale, that is an advantage. For a twenty five person delegation intending to host receptions on site, it usually means either a larger property outside the village or more than one residence.

Staying in Monterey

Monterey is the practical option, and for working teams it is frequently the correct one.

Access to the airport is simpler, downtown is close, and the road network makes it easier to reach the wider peninsula programme, including WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, without threading through the busiest village streets at the worst hours.

It also suits groups arriving with vehicles. Teams running client cars, display vehicles or a support fleet need parking that is secure, accessible at unsociable hours and large enough to be workable. Monterey residences tend to offer that more readily than the tighter footprints found in the villages.

The trade off is character. Monterey is an operational base rather than a trophy estate base, and for a delegation whose priority is the quality of the house itself it will feel like a compromise. For a team whose priority is running a demanding schedule cleanly across ten days, it rarely does.

What about Carmel Valley and the wider peninsula?

For larger groups and for briefs that lead with the residence rather than the location, the right answer is sometimes none of the three headline areas.

Carmel Valley holds a number of substantial estates with land, privacy and genuine entertaining capacity, and parts of the wider peninsula offer scale that the villages simply cannot.

This works well when the residence is a venue in its own right, hosting dinners, briefings or a private reception, and when transport is organised rather than ad hoc. It works less well for parties who expect to walk to dinner or to move independently and often.

We usually raise it as an option only once the brief makes clear that scale and privacy outrank walkability.

Choose the base around your programme, not a map pin

Monterey Car Week is distributed across Pebble Beach, Carmel, Monterey, Carmel Valley and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Traffic volumes and temporary event arrangements can materially affect journey times, and they vary by day and by hour, so any promise of a precise drive time during the week should be treated with caution.

The more useful exercise is to map your own week before choosing an area. Which days are anchored at a single venue? Which evenings involve a formal commitment that cannot be missed? Where does the group split, and does anyone need to return early?

  • Plan routes by day rather than assuming a single reliable journey time all week.
  • Coordinate chauffeurs and arrival windows in advance, particularly around concours and auction days.
  • Confirm secure parking capacity at the residence, including for any vehicles arriving mid week.
  • Identify the commitments that genuinely cannot slip, and base the location decision on those.
  • Agree how guests move if the party splits, so nobody depends on a vehicle that has already left.
  • Allow for receptions and late finishes when planning return journeys and staffing.

Which area works best for different groups?

Corporate and executive teams

Monterey or Carmel usually serve best. Executive teams tend to run full days, host clients in the evening and need the residence to function as a base with workable space, reliable connectivity and privacy for conversations. Monterey adds logistical ease. Carmel adds a better evening.

Collectors and private clients

Pebble Beach, where the calibre of the residence and the proximity to the Concours both matter, or Carmel Valley where the brief calls for land, privacy and entertaining capacity. Vehicle storage and access arrangements should be settled at brief stage rather than on arrival.

Manufacturer or brand delegations

Delegations typically need volume, parking and predictable access more than they need a walkable village. Monterey and the wider peninsula tend to answer this best, often with a principal residence for leadership and hosting, supported by additional properties for the working team.

Larger groups needing several residences

Above roughly twenty guests, a single property rarely satisfies the whole brief. The practical approach is a cluster: one residence that carries the entertaining and the senior party, with others nearby chosen for proximity and ease of movement rather than for matching character.

Building the Monterey accommodation brief

Monterey rewards precision. A requirement set out in this detail can be taken straight to the property partners who hold the relevant homes on the Peninsula, and each option can then be judged against the same measure. A loose request simply produces a longer list of weaker houses.

  • Exact dates, including any early or late arrivals.
  • Total guest count and the composition of the party.
  • Bedroom count, en suite requirements and single occupancy expectations.
  • Secure parking and vehicle storage requirements.
  • Entertaining needs: dining, receptions and outdoor space.
  • Private chef or catering expectations.
  • Transport and chauffeur requirements.
  • Privacy and confidentiality expectations.
  • Preferred and acceptable areas across the peninsula.
  • Whether several residences are acceptable, and how close they need to be.

Planning accommodation for a corporate group attending Monterey Car Week?

When should you secure Monterey Car Week accommodation?

There is no fixed deadline, and anyone quoting one is guessing. What is true is that the number of residences meeting a senior brief on this peninsula during this week is small, and the strongest options are committed early through our property partners.

The practical trigger is information rather than a date. Once you know your dates, your headcount and the shape of your programme, brief us.

With the Concours confirmed for 15 August 2027 and the wider week running from 6 August, most corporate and collector groups already know enough to begin well before the year of travel.

Briefing early does not commit you to a property. It simply means the shortlist is drawn from what our property partners can source at the right standard rather than from a narrower late stage selection.

The decision in one paragraph

Choose Pebble Beach for maximum proximity to the Concours and the highest calibre of estate. Choose Carmel for balance, atmosphere and walkable evenings across a peninsula wide programme. Choose Monterey when the week is operational and access, parking and airport proximity matter more than the address. If your brief leads with scale, privacy and entertaining capacity, expect the strongest options to sit in Carmel Valley or the wider peninsula, and plan transport accordingly.
